South Florida officer fatally shot man who punched him during confrontation, police say
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}Police say an officer fatally shot a man who punched him in the face during a confrontation behind an office building in Plantation.
Detective Philip Toman says the officer was on a routine foot patrol when he spotted the man and asked him to move along. Toman says the man assaulted the officer, who used a stun gun on him. Toman says the man continued to become more aggressive and the officer shot him.
Police haven't released the name of the man or the officer.
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}Toman didn't say how many times the man was shot. Police say he was taken to a hospital and died after surgery. The officer had minor injuries.
Toman says officers routinely conduct foot patrols. He says there may be surveillance video from the plaza.
