SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Authorities say a man shot and killed his 55-year-old estranged wife just outside a South Carolina domestic violence shelter where she was staying.
The Spartanburg County Sheriff's Office says 52-year-old Robert O'Shields Sr. pulled up beside his wife around 7 a.m. Tuesday and fired several shots before driving away.
Investigators say Mariann O'Shields had lived at the Safe Homes Crisis Center for six weeks with her daughter. They say she went to the sheriff's office the day before her death to say her husband violated a restraining order by talking to her as they exchanged custody of their child.
The coroner's office says Mariann O'Shields died about two hours after the shooting.
Robert O'Shields Sr. was arrested shortly after the shooting and charged with murder. It's not known if he has a lawyer.
