Pit bull stabbed, beaten in Los Angeles is recovering after getting more than 1,000 stitches
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}An animal rescue group says a dog that required more than 1,000 stitches after being stabbed and beaten is recovering in Los Angeles.
Police say the pit bull mix named Spartacus was attacked by a person with a knife and shovel in South Los Angeles early Saturday.
The Ghetto Rescue Foundation says veterinarians closed severe wounds to the animal's head, neck, ears, mouth and torso.
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}The foundation said Monday that Spartacus is up and walking around and expected to make a full recovery.
The dog will eventually be returned to its family. Police are investigating the attack.
