Pennsylvania Welfare Collector Busted After State Finds Her $700,000 Home
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}A Pennsylvania woman has been sentenced to three years of probation and ordered to pay restitution after collecting more than $19,000 in welfare while living in a nearly $700,000 home.
Tanya Postell, 27, filed for public assistance under the address of a hair salon she owned and never disclosed that she owned and occupied the upscale home, prosecutor Janan Tallo told the York Daily Record.
According to the criminal complaint, Postell received food stamps and subsidized child care assistance from Oct. 1, 2006, through Nov. 30, 2008. County documents show she and her boyfriend bought their 6.4-acre Paradise Township property in June of 2003.
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}Tallo could have sought up to seven years in prison and a $15,000 fine in the case but told the Record that she agreed to the plea because she wanted taxpayers reimbursed as soon as possible and Postell had no other criminal record.
