North Carolina man dies day after police standoff
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}Authorities in North Carolina say an Asheville man involved in a standoff with police officers has died.
Asheville police tell news outlets that 55-year-old Mark Allen Meyer was not in police custody when he died Tuesday morning — a day after he opened fired on officers and barricaded himself inside a home.
Authorities were at the home responding to a domestic disturbance report.
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}Police spokeswoman Christina Hallingse says Meyer later surrendered to officers. No one was injured.
News outlets report that warrants show Meyer then told police that he had ingested a large amount of medication. He was taken to the hospital, where he later died.
Police say they had obtained warrants against Meyer on several charges including assault with a deadly weapon against a government official with a firearm.
