New school chief concerns Chicago Teachers Union
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}The president of the Chicago Teachers Union has some concerns about Mayor-elect Rahm Emanuel's pick to be the new Chicago Public Schools chief.
Emanuel on Monday named Rochester, N.Y., schools superintendent Jean-Claude Brizard (brih-ZARD) to the top schools post.
But Karen Lewis calls it a "huge concern" that teachers had recently taken a no-confidence vote in Brizard. Rochester Teachers Association union president Adam Urbanski says Brizard saw the union as an "inconvenient obstacle."
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}Lewis says the Chicago teachers union will deal with "the hand we've been dealt." She says the union would work with Brizard, calling it "ridiculous" to not work with someone who has control over their members' destiny.
