Neighbor of Miss. hostage-taker heard gunshot and saw him with a gun before ordeal
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}A neighbor is describing unsettling behavior by the man at the center of a fatal hostage standoff in Mississippi.
Nelda Bass lives next door to where 20-year-old Fuaed (FOO-od) Abdo Ahmed lived.
The day before he took hostages at a Louisiana bank, she says she heard a single gunshot and went outside to see what was happening. She says she saw Ahmed standing in his yard with a rifle. He went inside when he saw her, and she didn't call police at the time.
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}Authorities say Ahmed was mentally unstable and believed a device was implanted in his head. He shot two hostages, killing one, before state police ended the hours-long standoff Tuesday by shooting him to death.
