Jury deliberates fate of Maine lobsterman who killed another man at bee farm where wife worked
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}A jury has begun deliberations in the trial of a Maine lobsterman who fatally shot another man during a confrontation at a beekeeping business.
The prosecutor told jurors Tuesday that Merrill "Mike" Kimball fired his handgun out of anger, not fear, during a confrontation in October 2013 in North Yarmouth, a small rural town north of Portland. The defense says Kimball was defending himself from an assault by a larger man.
Police say Kimball shot Leon Kelley three times.
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}Jurors deliberated several hours and listened to a 911 tape that captured the gunshots before adjourning Tuesday. They resume deliberations Wednesday.
Kelley's father-in-law is owner of the beekeeping business. Kimball's wife worked there and was retrieving about 700 pounds of honey she'd harvested when the confrontation took place.
