High school football coach defends staff, team in hazing case that led to season's suspension

The coach of a suburban Philadelphia high school where the football team's season was canceled due to hazing is defending both his staff and his players.

Coach Brian Hensel issued a statement Tuesday saying it's wrong to suggest his staff at Central Bucks High School West fostered a culture where a lack of supervision and hazing were the norm.

Whatever his players did, the coach says they did so without thinking it was "serious or harmful to their teammates."

School officials last week cancelled the last two games of the season and suspended the coaches.

They said rookies were subjected to humiliating initiation rites, including having to grab the genitals of other players while fully clothed.

The district attorney wants parents who think their children suffered harm to contact him.
