Gunman sought after Denver-area police officer shot, wounded during traffic stop
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}Police say a suburban Denver police officer was shot and wounded during a traffic stop and a manhunt is underway for the shooter.
The shooting occurred Friday night in the city of Aurora, just east of Denver.
Police spokesman Frank Fania tells the Denver Post (http://dpo.st/1xGPYoB ) that two officers made the stop about 9 p.m. MST and shots fired from inside the car hit one of them.
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}He says that the second officer returned fire but it isn't known whether anyone was hit.
The wounded officer was taken to a hospital, but Fania declined to provide any information on the officer's condition.
The suspect fled after abandoning a car two blocks from the site.
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}Area residents were urged to stay indoors as officers from several agencies, aided by police dogs and a helicopter, searched.
Police spokesmen could not immediately be reached for further comment.
