A lawyer for the first Guantanamo detainee to face a civilian trial says his client didn't know about a plot to bomb two U.S. embassies in Africa.
In closing arguments Tuesday at the Manhattan trial of Ahmed Ghailani, attorney Peter Quijano told jurors that Ghailani was a "dupe" and a "fall guy" for Al Qaeda operatives.
The government in its closing on Monday called Ghailani a cold-blooded killer and terrorist. It said he bought a truck and explosive components for the bombers before slipping away to Pakistan.
