GA College Steps in to Help Illegal Immigrant Student
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}My Fox Atlanta reports, a Georgia college stepped in to help stop the deportation of a student, who is in the country illegally.
No one denies that 21-year-old Kennesaw State Student Jessica Colotl is in the U.S. illegally.
Colotl came to America from Mexico with her parents when she was 10-years-old.
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}"They never thought that this would happen," said Colotl's mother, through an interpreter.
Colotl was arrested on the KSU campus in March for driving without a valid license and booked into the Cobb County jail. The 21-year-old was flagged as an illegal immigrant and deportation procedures were started.
"She says that it would be fair for Jessica to come out finish her school, then go back to Mexico. She wants Jessica to finish her dream and finish her education. To happen here since this is where she started," said Colotl's mother.
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}Phil Kent, a spokesman for Americans for Immigration Control said Colotl should not be a student at a Georgia college.
Kennesaw State University officials said they reached out to the federal government on Colotl's behalf and she was granted a deferment to finish her education.
