Detroit police say an 8-year-old boy was shot and critically injured while playing in a bedroom at his home when a stray bullet penetrated a wall and hit him in the neck.
Sgt. Michael Woody says several children were playing in a second-floor bedroom about 11 p.m. Wednesday when they heard a loud bang. Officers were canvassing the neighborhood Thursday afternoon seeking witnesses.
Police say a 12-year-old in the room told the other children to get down before the 8-year-old realized he'd been shot. Police officers rushed the boy to the hospital.

Woody says investigators determined the bullet was fired from outside the house, tore through the exterior wood frame and siding, and went through a closet before striking the boy.
