Boy with cerebral palsy drafted by Memphis Grizzlies
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}The Memphis Grizzlies got a special new addition to their team when they officially drafted an 8-year-old fan with cerebral palsy.
The Grizzlies announced on their official website that Charvis Brewer became the youngest person ever drafted by an NBA team on Sunday. The boy’s wish was fulfilled by his local branch of the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
Charvis’ draft day started with a surprise visit by star player Mike Conley and the team’s play-by-play announcer, Pete Pranica. The boy then signed his NBA contract, got a tour of the locker room and attended a practice with the team.
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}"Charvis doesn't get a chance to do stuff like regular kids, he has cerebral palsy, and he cannot walk, so today, it's all about him," his mother, Colissia Brewer, told MyFoxMemphis.com.
Charvis’ stepfather Mike Douglas told the station the boy loves basketball and has been a Grizzlies fan from day one.
"The smile on his face, it was a picture worth a thousand words," Make-A-Wish Director of Community Relations Miranda Harbor said. "He was ecstatic, and we love to see these wonderful exciting moments for our wish kids when they get to see their wish come true."
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}Charvis and his family also got the chance to attend the Grizzlies’ game against the Chicago Bulls on Monday. Charvus told MyFoxMemphis.com his money is on his new team.
"Yep, it's the Grizzlies' house, they play here!" he said.
