In 1991, co-founded Case Shiller Weiss Inc., which used econometric models to provide home values. Co-founded MacroMarkets LLC, an investment management firm, in 2009. Has been a research associate at the National Bureau of Economic Research since 1980. Now a professor of economics at Yale's Cowles Foundation for Research and Economics and of finance at Yale's School of Management.

OBSCURE FACT: A lifelong friend of noted economist Jeremy Siegel, whom he met as a graduate student at MIT in 1967. Their families have regularly vacationed together. Since the mid-1990s, the two men have politely disagreed about the stock market's direction and other economic issues.
