Louis Farrakhan's Deadly Prediction About President Obama

Now some fresh pickings from the Political Grapevine:

Conspiracy Theory

The Chicago Sun-Times reports the Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan says the "white right" is conspiring to make Barack Obama a one-term president, adding that they're "trying to set Barack up to be assassinated."

Farrakhan addressed about 20,000 followers Sunday in Chicago. He also told them he was taken aboard a wheel-shaped UFO in 1985 and given the ability to see the future. He called Saturday's earthquake in Chile a divine precursor to his speech, and said America must prepare for its own imminent disaster.

Hot Off the Presses

Al Gore is firing back at skeptics who have been mocking him about man-made global warming. Gore writes in Sunday's New York Times that he wishes the climate crisis were an illusion. But he insists that despite the discovery of mistakes in the 2007 U.N. report on climate change, the global warming consensus remains unchanged. Gore goes on to urge the passage of cap-and-trade legislation: "what is at stake is our ability to use the rule of law as an instrument of human redemption."

In response, conservative writer and Fox News contributor Bill Kristol said: "Redemption comes from God, not Gore."

The Hangover

And Russia is dealing with an Olympic hangover. President Dmitry Medvedev is demanding that Russian sports officials resign following the country's dismal performance at the winter games in Vancouver.

Russia came in sixth in the overall medal count, and 11th in golds. Medvedev warned the individuals responsible, "should take the courageous decision to hand in their notice. If we don't see such decisiveness, we will help them."

Russia has four years to get its act together before hosting the 2014 Winter Olympics.
