The family of one of the Delaware State University freshman shot last month on campus says she has died.
Shalita Middleton's family says the 17-year-old from Washington D.C., who had been hospitalized with serious abdominal injuries since the September 21st shooting, died this afternoon.
In a statement posted on the university's Web site, the family says -- quote -- "She struggled valiantly over the last several weeks and she was an inspiration to all her friends, both in Washington D.C., and Delaware, as well as her family members."

But in the end, the family says Middleton's injuries were too critical to overcome.
Another freshman, 17-year-old Nathaniel Pugh, was shot in the ankle in the same incident.
A third freshman, 18-year-old Loyer Braden, of East Orange, New Jersey, is charged with attempted first-degree murder, assault, reckless endangerment and possession of a firearm during a felony.
