Valerie Bertinelli Defends Friend Kirstie Alley's Weight

Actress Valerie Bertinelli defended friend Kirstie Alley after pictures surfaced of the star looking heavier, telling "Entertainment Tonight" that "I have seen Kirstie and I think she looks terrific."

"I don't know what those photographs might say and I don't necessarily see a lot of them. I have heard of them, but I disagree. When I have been with Kirstie, she looks terrific."

Bertinelli, who lost 40 pounds on the Jenny Craig diet program, told ET that she is happy with her new body, which is "between a six and an eight. In the business that I am in that is heavy, but I am comfortable at this weight."

"I wasn't satisfied a year and a half ago," she said. "I can move about at a much easier pace than I could when I was 40 pounds heavier. I am not going to be told what I have to weigh by society or by what glamour magazines tell you you have to weigh."

Bertinelli, who is known for her role on the '70s sitcom "One Day at a Time," next stars in "True Confessions of a Hollywood Starlet" with Joanna "JoJo" Levesque, premiering in August on Lifetime.
