WASHINGTON - The Internal Revenue Service gives military personnel a break on their tax-filing deadline while they are deployed in war zones. A tax guide for members of the military is available online, by clicking on "Armed Forces Tax Benefits" on the IRS web site at www.irs.gov.
Soldiers and their families can also e-mail questions and notifications of deployment to combatzone@irs.gov. The IRS said that soldiers and sailors do not have to file while they are deployed to the following combat zones, and they have another 180 days to file after their last day in the zone. The declared combat zones are:
