Cops Hope Tattoo Will Help ID Washed-Up Torso
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}Police hope a cherry tattoo will help identify a woman whose torso was found on a New York beach.
A beachcomber found the dismembered body part in a suitcase at Harbor Island Park in suburban New York City on Saturday, the Journal News reported.
"There's no hair, no fingerprints, no DNA, and the other body parts are spread out over God knows where," said William Paonessa, the deputy mayor of Mamaroneck.
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}The body part, which was not badly decomposed, was found in a dark-colored bag and is believed to be a woman of Hispanic or African American descent who would have been 35 to 50 years old and weighed 180 to 200 pounds, Lt. James Gaffney said. There was a stab wound, he said Monday, but he would not give details.
The tattoo — two cherries on a green stem — is on her right breast, and cops are hoping it leads to solving the mystery.
"We have been getting phone calls," Gaffney said. "Detectives are acting on leads."
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}Because of flooding on streams in the region, the torso could have come from almost anywhere around the sound, Mamaroneck police Sgt. Robert Holland said.
Paonessa said the village has no active missing-person cases.
