Venus to face Rogers in Quebec semifinals
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}Quebec City, QC (SportsNetwork.com) - Former world No. 1 Venus Williams sneaked past Czech Lucie Hradecka, 6-3, 4-6, 7-6 (7-3) in the quarterfinals at the Coupe Banque Nationale tennis event.
The top-seeded seven-time major champion Williams needed 2 hours, 10 minutes to down Hradecka, the Quebec runner-up two years ago.
Next up for Williams will be American Shelby Rogers, the No. 4 seed. Rogers breezed past Germany's Tatjana Maria, 6-4, 6-2.
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}In two other quarterfinals on the indoor surface at PEPS, fifth-seeded German Julia Goerges came from behind to reach her first semifinal in seven months by beating Czech Andrea Hlavackova 6-7 (6-8), 7-5, 6-2 and Croat Mirjana Lucic-Baroni landed in her first semifinal of the year by taking care of Kazakhstan's Sesil Karatantcheva 7-5, 6-0. Goerges and the former teen phenom and now 32-year-old Lucic-Baroni will square off here on Saturday.
The 2014 Quebec champion will earn $43,000.
