UEFA suspends Adriano for unsportsmanlike goal
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}UEFA suspended Shakhtar Donetsk forward Luiz Adriano for a "violation of the principles of conduct" Tuesday and also ordered him to perform one day of "community football service."
Adriano received the punishment after he intercepted a pass intended to be for Nordsjaelland following a stoppage in play, and scored in a Champions League match last week.
After intercepting the pass by a teammate in an unwritten fair play rule meant to return the ball to Nordsjaelland after an injury stoppage, Adriano scored as both his opponents and teammates looked on stunned.
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}Nordsjaelland players confronted Adriano after the goal, but there was no way for the referee could disallow the score. Adriano scored two more goals as his side secured a knockout berth in the tournament with a 5-2 win.
Adriano will miss the final group match against Juventus, which needs at least a draw to secure its place in the knockout stage.
