Tottenham cruises past Sunderland

London, England (SportsNetwork.com) - Tottenham fell behind at White Hart Lane on Monday but stormed back to get a comfortable 5-1 victory over lowly Sunderland.

The home side was behind after 16 minutes when Lee Cattermole pounced on a misplaced pass from the Spurs defense to fire home a first-time effort from distance.

Tottenham managed to get on level terms before the halftime interval as Emmanuel Adebayor turned in Christian Eriksen's exquisite cross from close range in the 28th minute.

The second half belonged to Tottenham as the hosts produced four goals in the final half-hour to cruise past the Black Cats.

Harry Kane grabbed the go-ahead goal by getting on the end of another superb cross from Eriksen, and the Denmark international got his name on the score sheet in the 78th minute by converting a shot that took a slight deflection on its way into the back of the net.

Kane thought he had extended Tottenham's lead five minutes from time when his shot beat Vito Mannone but slowly trickled toward the goal line. Adebayor was arriving to tuck home the shot and avoid a late clearance.

Gylfi Sigurdsson, who came on as a late substitute, rubbed salt in Sunderland's wounds by tacking on a late goal following a give-and-go with Younes Kaboul.

Tottenham climbs to sixth place by improving to 59 points while Sunderland stays bottom of the Premier League on 25 points.
