Torrealba gets 66-game ban in Venezuela

Texas Rangers catcher Yorvit Torrealba was suspended 66 games by a Venezuelan baseball league for hitting an umpire in the mask after striking out in a game last Friday.

The president of the Venezuelan Professional Baseball League tweeted the penalty on Monday.

Jose Grasso Vecchio said Torrealba offered an apology for striking the home plate umpire in the mask with his right hand and it was accepted.

Torrealba, who plays behind Mike Napoli, batted .273 with seven homers, 37 RBI and a .306 on-base percentage in 113 games for the Rangers last season after signing a two-year contract in November 2010.
