Torino eases past Hellas Verona

Verona, Italy (SportsNetwork.com) - Torino put an end to a brief two-match winless run in league play on Monday after easing to a 3-1 victory over Hellas Verona at the Stadio M.A. Bentegodi.

After settling for a draw with AC Milan on Feb. 1 followed by a 2-1 home loss to Bologna the next week, Torino hoped to put together a better 90-minute performance on Monday.

But things started poorly for the visiting side as defender Cesare Bovo brought down Hellas' Juan Taleb in the penalty area, resulting in a spot kick, which Luca Toni calmly dispatched to give his side the lead in the 36th minute.

Hellas took the lead into the locker room, but the second half was all Torino.

Ciro Immobile found an equalizer for the visitors four minutes into the second half and fellow forward Alessio Cerci gave the club the 2-1 lead with a tally in the 53rd minute.

Omar El Kaddouri then made it 3-1 for Torino in the 61st minute, ensuring the visiting side claimed an important three points.

The result sees Torino rise to seventh place on 36 points, ahead of Hellas Verona on goal difference.
