This Week in Golf -- Oct. 30 - Nov. 2

Philadelphia, PA (SportsNetwork.com) - PGA TOUR - CIMB CLASSIC, Kuala Lumpur Golf & Country Club, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia - The PGA Tour heads to Asia this week for the first of three straight international events.

First up will be the CIMB Classic in Kuala Lumpur. Last year, Ryan Moore birdied the first playoff hole on Monday morning to defeat Gary Woodland and win for the third time on the PGA Tour.

Woodland had a chance to win the title in regulation, but missed a 12-foot birdie putt. Moore saved par from a greenside bunker to force the extra session.

After a pair of weather delays pushed the final round back until sunset, the playoff took place on Monday morning as there was also threatening weather in the area as the round was completed.

Moore dropped his third shot at the par-5 closing hole to four feet. Woodland missed the green with his third, then chipped to a foot. Moore made the birdie putt for the win.

Jason Dufner and newly crowned FedExCup champion Billy Horschel will headline the field this week. Though the European Tour is starting its finals series this week, three players that qualified for the series -- Sergio Garcia, Lee Westwood and Paul Casey -- will instead play the CIMB Classic, adding to the strength of the field.

Golf Channel will air all four rounds from 11 p.m. - 3 a.m. beginning late Wednesday evening.

There are a pair of PGA Tour events next week. The final World Golf Championship event of the year, the WGC-HSBC Champions, is in Shanghai, while the remainder of the tour will be in Mississippi for the Sanderson Farms Championship. After 20 years at Annandale Golf Club, that tournament will move to the Country Club of Jackson.

EUROPEAN TOUR

BMW MASTERS, Lake Malaren Golf Club (Masters Course), Shanghai, China - The European Tour kicks off its finals series this week in Shanghai.

Gonzalo Fernandez-Castano made a double-bogey on the final hole last year, but still did enough to earn his seventh European Tour title. His final-round 68 gave him a 1-shot win over Thongchai Jaidee and Francesco Molinari.

The Spaniard has had just four top-20 finishes all season, most of which he spent on the PGA Tour. His best finish this season was a tie for fourth at the Canadian Open.

Fernandez-Castano will defend his title this week at Lake Malaren Golf Club against a field that is missing several big names. Paul Casey, Sergio Garcia and Lee Westwood are competing at the PGA Tour's CIMB Classic, while world No. 1 Rory McIlroy is taking a few weeks to prepare for a pending court case.

Winning Ryder Cup captain Paul McGinley, and eight of his team members, will headline the field this week

Golf Channel will have tape-delayed coverage of all four rounds this week.

The European Tour remains in Shanghai next week for the WGC - HSBC Champions, where Dustin Johnson won by three over Ian Poulter last year, but will not be on hand to defend his title.

CHAMPIONS TOUR

CHARLES SCHWAB CUP CHAMPIONSHIP, Desert Mountain Club (Cochise course), Scottsdale, Arizona - The Champions Tour season-finale is this week and the event shifts to Desert Mountain, which will be the seventh different course in tournament history.

Fred Couples opened with back-to-back rounds of 6-under 65 last year and he cruised to a 6-stroke win over Bernhard Langer, Mark O'Meara and Peter Senior. Couples has played in just 10 Champions Tour events in 2014, but he won twice and finished second two other times.

Langer tied for sixth place last week at the AT&T Championship and that was enough for him to clinch the $1 million prize for winning the season-long Charles Schwab Cup. Langer hasn't won the season-ending event in six previous tries, but he has won five times this season and has 17 top-10 finishes in 20 starts.

The top-30 players from the money list make up the field this week.

Golf Channel will live coverage all four days of this event.

The only other Champions Tour events on the schedule this year are Champions Tour Q-School, which starts November 17th, and the PNC Father-Son Challenge, which will be December 13-14.

LPGA TOUR

FUBON LPGA TAIWAN CHAMPIONSHIP, Miramar Golf Country Club, Taipei, Taiwan - The LPGA Tour continues its six-week Asian swing with its first and only stop in Taiwan.

Suzann Pettersen hasn't won since this event last year, but that was also her second straight victory at this tournament. Pettersen was the only player in the field last year with more than one round in the 60s. She had three in all that week, including a final-round, 3-under 69, which gave her a 5-shot win over Azahara Munoz.

Pettersen won the last two years at Sunrise Golf & Country Club, but the event shifts to Miramar Golf Country Club this week.

Inbee Park replaced Stacy Lewis as the No. 1 player in the world rankings on Monday. Neither competed last week, but both are in the field this week.

Golf Channel will have overnight coverage of all four days of this event.

The LPGA Tour wraps up its Asian swing next week with the Mizuno Classic, where Teresa Lu came from behind in the final round last year as she fired an 8-under 64 to win by two.
