Texas Tech's Kingsbury gets extension
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}Lubbock, TX (SportsNetwork.com) - Texas Tech football coach Kliff Kingsbury got an extension and a raise on the eve of his third season.
The school announced Friday night that it has agreed to a three-year extension to keep Kingsbury with the Red Raiders through 2020.
The deal raises Kingsbury's salary to $3.1 million in 2015. He will make $4.1 million in the last year of the extension.
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}"There has never been a more exciting time within our football program than now," Red Raiders athletic director Kirby Hocutt said in a statement. "I am very proud of the program coach Kingsbury is building and I know our fans are as well."
Kingsbury, 35, played quarterback at Texas Tech from 1998-2002 and was hired in December 2012 after Tommy Tuberville left unexpectedly to coach Cincinnati.
The Red Raiders were 8-5 in each of Kingsbury's first two seasons at the helm with one bowl game win. They open the 2014 season on Saturday at home against Central Arkansas.
