Texas QB Jerrod Heard having injured shoulder evaluated

Texas Longhorns sophomore quarterback Jerrod Heard suffered a shoulder injury in practice Tuesday, the university announced Wednesday.

Heard is competing with senior Tyrone Swoopes and freshman Shane Buechele for the starting job.

In 12 games as a redshirt freshman last season, Heard completed 92 of his 159 pass attempts for 1,214 yards and five TDs. He threw five interceptions. He also rushed for 561 yards and three TDs, averaging 4.0 yards per carry.

Swoopes passed for 537 yards and four TDs, and rushed for 451 yards and 12 TDs in 11 games in 2015.
