Team USA boss and Predators GM David Poile has surgery day after being hit in face by puck

Nashville Predators general manager David Poile had surgery in the nose and eye areas and got stitches for a laceration, a day after being struck in the face by an errant puck during the team's morning skate at Minnesota.

Poile was injured on Thursday when he was hit by a puck during the morning skate at Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul, Minn.

The Predators said in a statement that he is resting and recovering and will remain in the hospital for further observation.

Poile also is the general manager for the U.S. Olympic hockey team for the Winter Games in Sochi, Russia. The statement said he will not travel to Sochi as originally planned with Team USA on Sunday.

Also on Thursday, Predators TV announcer Pete Weber left the arena in the morning for the hospital. He was taken for emergency heart surgery, but was resting comfortable later in the day, the team said.
