(SportsNetwork.com) - Detroit Red Wings forward Johan Franzen will not play for Sweden in the upcoming 2014 Winter Olympics as he continues his recovery from concussion-related issues.
Franzen had sat out 16 consecutive games due to a concussion sustained on Dec. 15 before participating in Detroit's 5-4 shootout loss to Florida this past Sunday. He began to re-experience symptoms following the contest, however, and was placed back on injured reserve by the Red Wings earlier this week.
The 34-year-old has been limited to just 31 games this season due to injuries, recording nine goals and 14 assists over that period.

Franzen, one of six Red Wings named to Sweden's roster for the Sochi Games, was also a member of Team Sweden at the 2010 Vancouver Olympics.
