VALENCIA, Spain --

Struggling Spanish club Levante has fired coach Lucas Alcaraz after it fell to the bottom of the standings.

Levante made the announcement after the team lost 4-0 at home to Real Sociedad on Sunday.

The Valencia-based side is in last place after only one win in nine rounds.

Alcaraz took over Levante one year ago and helped it avoid relegation last season.

He is the second coach to be fired in Spain's first division this season after Las Palmas replaced Paco Herrera with Quique Setien last week.
