Seppi moves on in Moscow

Eighth seed Andreas Seppi came from behind round victory Monday at the $1 million Kremlin Cup.

The Italian Seppi overcame oft-injured Russian Igor Andreev 2-6, 6-3, 7-6 (7-4) in just over two hours on the indoor hardcourts at Olympic Stadium.

The 2005 Moscow champion Andreev has been slowed by some sore knees.

"You cannot beat anyone playing on one leg," he said.

Russia's Teymuraz Gabashvili pleased the home crowd on Day 1 with a 6-2, 6-4 victory over Slovak Karol Beck. Gabashvili will encounter fourth-seeded former world No. 5 star and fellow Russian Nikolay Davydenko in the round of 16 here. Davydenko is a three-time Moscow champion.

Additional wins came for Kazakhstan's Mikhail Kukushkin and Spaniard Pere Riba, who will meet second-seeded and reigning Moscow champion Viktor Troicki of Serbia in his next outing. Troicki topped Cypriot Marcos Baghdatis in last year's Moscow finale.

This week's top seed is gritty Serb Janko Tipsarevic.

The 2011 Moscow titlist will claim $132,160.
