San Jose acquires Honduran Chavez from Dallas

The San Jose Earthquakes acquired Honduran international midfielder Marvin Chavez from FC Dallas on Friday night in exchange for allocation money.

Chavez, 28, spent the last three seasons with Dallas, and made 54 appearances with the club. He had six goals and four assists last season, starting 31 of his 32 appearances. Overall, Chavez has eight goals and six assists in his MLS career.

"Marvin is one of the most exciting players in MLS," said Earthquakes general manager John Doyle. "I can't wait to see him in an Earthquakes uniform."

Chavez, who has played 23 games for Honduras, started his career with hometown side CD Victoria of the Honduran top flight from 2005-08, and had 23 goals and 17 assists. He then spent two seasons with CD Marathon before joining MLS.

"Marvin is a player who has shown well in our league," said Earthquakes coach Frank Yallop. "He has a lot of pace, is a great dribbler of the ball and is a very versatile player. He should fit in nicely with our team."
