Russia defeats Brazil in women's basketball

Evgeniya Belyakova led a balanced attack with 14 points and Russia beat Brazil, 69-59, in the women's basketball tournament.

Irina Osipova added 13 points for the Russians, who defeated Canada on Saturday. Marina Kuzina tallied 11 points.

Erika Souza had 15 points and 18 rebounds to lead Brazil, which lost to France on Saturday. Patricia Ferreira and Karla Costa donated 12 and 11 points, respectively.

Holding a 53-51 lead with 5:47 to play, Russia went on a 16-4 run to put the game away. Belyakova bookended the burst with a pair of three-pointers to give the Russians a 69-55 edge.
