RBNY heads to L.A. for crucial clash

Carson, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Red Bull New York and the Los Angeles Galaxy are gearing up for a bi-coastal clash as the two sides will do battle at the StubHub Center on Sunday.

New York continues its pursuit of a postseason berth after winning its last three of its last four in league play, though the three victories came on home soil.

The club has produced a record of 0-3-3 in its last six league games away from Red Bull Arena, underlining the need for the Red Bulls to get back to winning ways on the road.

One reason for optimism remains the team's switch to a 4-2-3-1 formation that has placed Eric Alexander alongside Dax McCarty just in front of the back- four.

The move seemingly has paid dividends in the club's homestand as the Red Bulls cruised to a 4-1 victory over Seattle Sounders FC last time out.

"We still give some goals away and easy opportunity for the other team, but I think we're in a better shape playing like this," Thierry Henry told MLSsoccer.com regarding the change in formation. "We always, most of the time, have 10 guys behind the ball - nine, sometimes - and it's easier to defend that way.

"We all know we can score goals - we didn't have a lot of games this year when we didn't create, when we didn't score ... (but) we were a bit too open sometimes when we were losing the ball, and having those guys there and also the team working hard, it's better for us."

Bradley Wright-Phillips will be looking to continue his scoring tear on Sunday. The Englishman needs just four goals over the club's final five games to break the single-season scoring record, but a Galaxy team that has leaked just two goals in its last four league home matches will be hoping to neutralize Wright-Phillips.

Los Angeles already has a playoff spot locked up, but the club will vying for the MLS Supporters' Shield the rest of the way.

The Galaxy enter the weekend on 54 points, level with Seattle for the MLS- lead.
