Ravens TE Pitta dislocates hip in practice collision, will miss opener, Harbaugh says
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}Baltimore Ravens tight end Dennis Pitta dislocated his hip in practice and is expected to remain sidelined throughout the preseason and for the Sept. 5 regular season opener against Denver.
The injury occurred during Saturday's practice session when Pitta collided with safety James Ihedigbo in the back of the end zone vying for a pass from Joe Flacco.
Pitta lay prone for several minutes before being carted off the field.
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}After practice, coach John Harbaugh said the defending Super Bowl champion Ravens will be forced to play their opener in Denver without their top pass-catching tight end.
Pitta was preparing for his fourth season with Baltimore. The 6-foot-4, 245-pounder caught 61 passes for 669 yards and seven touchdowns last season.
