PSG edges Barca in five-goal thriller

Paris, France (SportsNetwork.com) - PSG climbed to the top of Group F in Champions League action on Tuesday by edging Barcelona, 3-2, at the Parc des Princes.

After opening its European slate with a draw at Ajax, the Parisians managed to claim their first win of the campaign with goals coming from three different sources.

The hosts were in front by the 10th minute when David Luiz controlled a free kick from Lucas Moura and slotted a left-footed shot just inside the post.

But Barcelona wasted little time in getting back on level terms as Lionel Messi worked a nifty give-and-go before tucking the return pass into the bottom corner.

A rare header from Marco Verratti put the Parisians back in front in the 26th minute before Blaise Matuidi extended the lead in the 54th minute by directing Gregory Van Der Wiel's superb cross into the back of the net.

Barcelona once again answered quickly as Neymar's side-footed finish two minutes later brought the Catalans back to within one, and while the visitors came close to equalizing on a couple of occasions, PSG held on to collect all three points and climb to the top of the group.

Ajax, meanwhile, was held to another draw on Tuesday as the club claimed a point from a 1-1 tie against APOEL.

Manchester City was fortunate to come away from the Etihad with a share of the spoils as the Citizens were held to a 1-1 home draw by AS Roma.

The hosts were in front after only four minutes when Sergio Aguero, who was brought down in the box by Maicon, converted from the penalty spot.

Francesco Totti brought the Serie A level in the 23rd minute when he latched on to a brilliant through ball and chipped a shot past the on-rushing Joe Hart. At 38 years and three days, Totti becomes the oldest player to score in the Champions League, surpassing Manchester United legend Ryan Giggs.

City was second-best for the remainder of the match but managed to hold on for its first point of the group stage, putting the club third in Group E.

Bayern Munich climbed to the top of Group E by getting a 1-0 victory at CSKA Moscow. Thomas Muller converted a first-half penalty to help the Bavarians seal the win.

Chelsea cruised to the Group G summit on Tuesday by riding Nemanja Matic's first-half header to a 1-0 victory at Sporting Lisbon, giving the Blues four points through two games.

Maribor and Schalke stayed level on two points apiece in Group G as the two sides played to a 1-1 draw on Tuesday.

FC Porto staged a late comeback against Shakhtar Donetsk on Tuesday to salvage a point from a 2-2 draw.

Shakhtar held a two-goal lead heading into the final minutes of the game, but Jackson Martinez converted an 89th-minute penalty before netting a stoppage- time equalizer to see Porto get a share of the result.

Also on Tuesday, BATE Borisov moved to second place behind Porto thanks to a 2-1 victory over Athletic Bilbao.
