Portland to host NWSL championship match
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) The National Women's Soccer League will hold its championship match at Providence Park in Portland, Oregon.
In the league's first two seasons, the championship match was hosted by the higher-seeded team. Commissioner Jeff Plush said Monday the league's owners decided before the season to move the championship to a predetermined location.
The Oct. 1 championship will be televised by FOX Sports 1.
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}Providence Park is home to the NWSL's Portland Thorns, who lead the league in home attendance with an average of more than 15,000 fans a game.
A match last month between the Thorns and the Seattle Reign drew a sellout of 21,144, the largest crowd in league history and the second-largest, stand-alone crowd for a women's professional soccer game in the United States.
