Petkovic reaches first Grand Slam semi in Paris
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}Paris, France (SportsNetwork.com) - Resurgent German Andrea Petkovic upset 2012 runner-up Sara Errani to secure a berth in the semifinals at the French Open.
The 28th-seeded former top-10 star Petkovic played her best match of the fortnight by whipping the 10th-seeded Errani 6-2, 6-2 on Court Chatrier in a match that commenced following a three-hour rain delay at Stade Roland Garros.
The 26-year-old Petkovic will now appear in her first-ever Grand Slam semifinal. The one-time world No. 9 reached the quarterfinals at three of the four major events in 2011 before injuries derailed her in 2012 and for the first half of last year.
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}Petkovic's semifinal opponent on Thursday will be fourth-seeded Romanian Simona Halep or 27th-seeded Russian Svetlana Kuznetsova, who titled here in 2009 and was the French Open runner-up in 2006.
The other semi will pit seventh-seeded Maria Sharapova against 18th-seeded Canadian Eugenie Bouchard. Sharapova completed the career Grand Slam with a title here in 2012 and lost to Serena Williams in last year's final. The 20- year-old Bouchard has reached the final four at both Grand Slam events in 2014.
