Penguins sign Kunitz to extension

The Pittsburgh Penguins have signed forward year contract extension through the 2013-14 campaign.

The deal has an annual value of $3.725 million.

Kunitz is entering his third full season with the Penguins and has one assist in four games thus far. He was Pittsburgh's second-leading goal scorer last year with 23 and added 25 assists for 48 points in 66 games.

The 32-year-old Saskatchewan native was acquired by the Penguins on February 26, 2009 in a deal with Anaheim and helped Pittsburgh win the Stanley Cup later that spring.

In 140 regular-season games with the Penguins, Kunitz has 43 goals and 56 assists for 99 points. He has also registered 26 points in 43 postseason games.

Kunitz also won a Stanley Cup with Anaheim in the spring of 2007 and has compiled 124 goals with 167 assists for 291 points and a plus-82 rating in 455 career NHL games with Anaheim, Atlanta and Pittsburgh.
