Padres activate SS Cabrera
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}The San Diego Padres activated shortstop Everth Cabrera from the 15-day disabled list Friday.
Cabrera was placed on the DL on June 19, retroactive to June 17, and missed 17 games due to a strained left hamstring.
Before his injury, the 26-year-old Cabrera was off to a hot start, hitting .305 with a .382 on-base percentage. Despite missing the past few weeks, Cabrera still leads the National League with 31 stolen bases.
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}Last season, Cabrera led the NL with 44 stolen bases in just 115 games.
He is a career .254 hitter in 365 games over five seasons, all with the Padres.
To make room for Cabrera, San Diego optioned pitcher Burch Smith to Triple-A Tucson. Smith, a 23-year-old rookie, is 0-1 with an 11.37 earned run average in six games -- including three starts -- this season.
