Netherlands secures semifinal spot in women's field hockey
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}The Netherlands edged South Korea on Saturday to guarantee a spot in the semifinals of the women's field hockey tournament.
Carlien Dirkse van den Heuvel tallied the decisive goal in the 36th minute, and the Dutch held on for a 3-2 victory. The defending gold medalists are 4-0 in Pool A play and are assured a spot in the final four.
Great Britain also had a chance to secure a semifinal berth, but lost to China and is now 3-1-0 in Pool A.
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}In the other Pool A contest, Japan tied Belgium.
In Pool B, the United States lost to New Zealand and fell to 1-3-0 in the group stage. New Zealand, Argentina and Australia all have 3-1-0 records in the pool, but Argentina is in first based on goal differential.
The Argentines beat Germany on Saturday, while Australia edged South Africa.
