Murray wins Montreal opener
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}Wimbledon champion Andy Murray posted a predictable second-round victory Wednesday at the $2.887 million Rogers Cup tennis event.
The second seed got past capable Spaniard Marcel Granollers 6-4, 7-6 (7-2) on the hardcourts at Stade Uniprix at this Masters 1000 tournament. Granollers was last week's surprise titlist in Kitzbuehel, Austria, on red clay.
The back-to-back Canadian Masters titlist in 2009 and 2010 Murray is playing his first tennis since giving Great Britain its first male Wimbledon singles champion in 77 years last month.
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}Up next for Murray will be Latvian Ernests Gulbis, who upended 13th-seeded Italian Fabio Fognini 6-3, 1-6, 6-1.
Also on Day 3 in Montreal, Canadian wild card Vasek Pospisil handled Czech veteran Radek Stepanek, 6-2, 6-4.
The 2013 Rogers Cup champion will earn $547,300.
