Moyes gets first taste of United-Liverpool derby

Manchester United manager David Moyes will get his first taste of the club's heated rivalry with Liverpool when the two sides square off at Anfield on Sunday.

Moyes is quite familiar with the intense atmosphere at Anfield due to his time with Everton, though he never managed to produce a Premier League win at the ground during his 11-year tenure with the Toffees.

But the United boss will look to break his dismal run of form at Liverpool thanks to a new and highly-improved squad at his disposal.

Moyes already has proven to be quite adept in navigating his squad as United has gotten off to an impressive start this term.

The Red Devils thrived in a potentially tricky opening match by claiming a 4-1 win at Swansea City and then proceeded to earn a point in a scoreless home draw with Chelsea.

Liverpool, though, despite claiming maximum points through its first two matches of the season, comes into Sunday's affair somewhat wounded.

Kolo Toure, who has impressed since joining the Reds from Manchester City in the summer, picked up an injury in the club's midweek defeat of Notts County in the Capitol One Cup. Joe Allen and Aly Cissokho also sustained injuries in the contest, leaving Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers with something of a selection problem ahead of the massive clash.

The mounting injury problem at Anfield has led to speculation of transfer activity before the close of the summer window on Monday, while United could also be poised to make a splash having not added a significant signing during the offseason.

One team that has been active throughout the transfer window is Tottenham. The club has brought in multiple reinforcements in Roberto Soldado, Paulinho and Erik Lamela to cope with Gareth Bale's impending departure. Soldado's arrival has been particularly influential as the Spaniard has scored both of Tottenham's goals thus far to lead Spurs to six points from back-to-back 1-0 victories over Crystal Palace and Swansea.

But Sunday will mark Tottenham's toughest test yet this season as the club heads to the Emirates to take on bitter rivals Arsenal.

Sunday's other Premier League match will pit two even sides, based on last season's final table, against one another. West Bromwich Albion and Swansea City finished eighth and ninth, respectively, in the top flight last term, and they will square off at the Hawthorns with both sides looking to secure their first wins of the new campaign.

Hull City is facing Manchester City at quite an unfortunate time. The Citizens suffered a disappointing 3-2 defeat to Cardiff City last weekend, and the Tigers could be on the receiving end of a drubbing at the Etihad on Saturday as City looks to get back to winning ways.

Elsewhere in Saturday's Premier League slate, Newcastle hosts Fulham at St. James' Park, Everton goes for its first win when it heads to Cardiff City, Norwich City welcomes Southampton to Carrow Road, Stoke City travels to Upton Park to face West Ham, and Crystal Palace goes for its first points of the season when it hosts Sunderland at Selhurst Park.
