Millard throws 2 TD passes, West Virginia wraps up spring practices

Paul Millard threw two touchdown passes, Mario Alford returned the opening kickoff 99 yards for a touchdown and West Virginia wrapped up spring practice with the offense beating the defense 37-27 in a scrimmage on Saturday.

Millard stood out among three quarterbacks while starter Clint Trickett recovers from offseason shoulder surgery. Millard completed 14 of 19 passes for 129 yards.

Junior college transfer Skyler Howard went 9 of 13 for 70 yards and a score. Logan Moore, moved to quarterback this spring, went 10 of 21 for 109 yards. Josh Lambert kicked three field goals, including a 53-yarder.

Dustin Garrison, plagued by injuries the past two seasons, had 47 yards on 10 carries. Wendell Smallwood added 45 and Pittsburgh transfer Rushel Shell ran for 42.

The defense earned points based on specific achievements.
