Mets' Dickey has successful abdominal surgery
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}New York Mets pitcher R.A. Dickey underwent surgery in Philadelphia on Thursday to repair a lower abdominal muscle tear.
The 37-year-old knuckleballer is coming off a career year in which he went 20-6 with a 2.73 earned run average and 230 strikeouts through 233 2/3 innings.
"Thank you everyone for your thoughts, prayers etc." Dickey tweeted late Thursday night. "I'm back from Philly unscathed. That is except for a 2 inch incision in my lower ab. Surgery went well."
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}Dickey, who is the leading candidate for the NL Cy Young Award, is expected to be back at full strength by the start of Spring Training.
