Mets' deGrom K's first 8 batters, ties MLB record

DeGrom tied former Houston pitcher Jim Deshaies, who set the record in 1986 against the Los Angeles Dodgers. Marlins pitcher Jarred Cosart broke the streak with a single to right.
The rookie hurler set the franchise record, which was previously held by Pete Falcone, who had six straight strikeouts to open a game on May 1, 1980 against Philadelphia.
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}Mickey Welch struck out nine straight batters to open a game for the New York Gothams in 1884 before the modern era of baseball.
DeGrom finished with a career-high 13 strikeouts.
