Mercury hand Mystics third straight loss
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}Washington, DC (SportsNetwork.com) - Brittney Griner scored 20 points and helped key a third-quarter run that lifted the Phoenix Mercury to an 81-66 win over the Washington Mystics Tuesday at Verizon Center.
Both Griner and Candice Dupree had four points during a 10-0 Phoenix surge to open the second half, with the sequence snapping a 37-37 tie at halftime.
The Mystics pulled within 58-53 late in the third quarter, but the Mercury answered with an 8-1 push that Dupree capped with a short hook with 6:14 to play en route to their fourth victory in five games.
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}Dupree finished with 18 points and nine rebounds and Diana Taurasi tallied 13 points and 10 assists for Phoenix.
Washington was dealt a third consecutive loss following a 4-2 start to the season and had just one player score in double figures, with Emma Meesseman recording 14 points.
