Matthew Wright scores 19 points as St. Bonaventure holds off Wagner to win 70-67
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}Matthew Wright scored 19 points and added six assists as St. Bonaventure withstood a furious Wagner comeback to win 70-67 in the semifinal of the Gulf Coast Classic Tuesday night.
St. Bonaventure (5-1) shot a blistering 65.4 percent in the first half on their way to a 43-31 halftime lead. Wright led the way, scoring 17 on 5-of-6 shooting in the half.
The Bonnies couldn't sustain the pace and Wagner (4-3) erased the deficit.
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}Marcus Burton's 3-pointer cut the lead to 59-58 with just under 8 minutes to play. St. Bonaventure responded with a 5-0 run that Wagner couldn't overtake.
Jay Harris and Latif Rivers both missed 3-pointers that could have tied the game in the final 10 seconds.
Mario Moody led Wagner with 19 points, tying a career high. Harris finished with 14.
