Marseille's perfect mark spoiled at Valenciennes

After starting its Ligue 1 campaign with six straight wins, Marseille's perfect start came to a halt on Sunday with a 4-1 defeat at Valenciennes.

Anthony Le Tallec scored a goal in each half for the home side, while Marseille's only response came in stoppage time from Jordan Ayew.

Gael Danic got things started for Valenciennes when he scored on a free kick that beat goalkeeper Steve Mandanda at his near post.

Le Tallec made it 2-0 in the 34th minute when he scored from close range after a nice pass from Danic, while Foued Kadir extended the lead to three goals before halftime with a shot from outside the penalty area.

Marseille was struggling to get going and Le Tallec added another goal midway through the second half when he headed home Kadir's cross before Ayew netted his consolation goal shortly before the final whistle.

Saint Etienne, France - St Etienne dominated play but was only able to come away with a 0-0 draw at home against Reims.
